A room can be brightened in a matter of minutes with a fresh or faux flower arrangements. If you have a garden, simply snip some of your favorite blooms to arrange. If you do not have a garden or do not want mess with changing out dead flowers then faux flowers will work for you. Your local craft store should carry a variety of faux flowers.

Follow these simple tips for making gorgeous flower arrangements (see photos below for ideas):

Decide where you will place your flower arrangement. Will it be a dining room table centerpiece or a bedside addition to the guestroom?

Evaluate the color scheme and decorating scheme of the room where the arrangement will be placed. Choose flower types and colors that will compliment the decorating scheme.

Choose the container that will best accent your arrangement. Some ideas for arrangements are plates, cookware (I use silver mixing bowls for some of my arrangements), baskets, or whatever you can dream up!

Have fun! There are no "rules" to flower arranging. Let your creation show off your individual personality.

Flower Arrangement Ideas and Instructions

Not all creative flower arrangements have to include flowers. Try using greenery such as grasses and leaves for a different look. For this project you will need (4) bunches of your favorite greenery (artificial greenery works better than real greenery for this project), Spanish moss, rectangular piece of floral foam and a rectangular gardening bin.

1. Cut floral foam to fit in the bottom of the bin.

2. Insert each bunch of greenery in a horizontal line across the top of the floral foam.

3. Place Spanish moss at the bottom of the greenery to cover up any portion of the floral foam that may be showing.

Sunflowers make beautiful arrangements for spring and summer. Use a variety of colors for an interesting look. For this arrangement you will need a variety of different colored sunflowers, half sphere floral foam (if you are using a circular basket), and a round basket.

1. Cut the sunflower stems to various lengths.

2. Place floral foam (flat side down) into the bottom of your floral arrangement basket.

3. Insert sunflowers into floral foam, making sure to alternate colors (as seen in photo).

Wildflowers and wild grasses arrangements offer a variety of colors and add a nice touch to any country themed room. For this project you will need a large piece of floral foam and a variety of wild flowers and grasses. If you are using faux flowers you will need approximately 6-7 bunches depending on the size of the container that you use. I used a lined basket that I picked up at a garage sale for this project.

1. Cut floral foam to fit the bottom of your container.

2. Trim flowers so that they "pop" from the top of the container.

3. Insert flowers and grasses into floral foam being sure to alternate flowers for variety.
